While the title of Chief Wellness Officer (CWO) is not official within educational institutions, adopting this mindset can significantly enhance their impact.
This presentation explores how school nurses can embrace leadership roles, advocate for policy changes, and integrate wellness initiatives into school culture.

"What's Changed and What Hasn't: Understanding Evolving Legal Requirements in School Health"

Abstract: School nurses are at the forefront of addressing the physical and mental health needs of students.
In this session, participants will learn about key legal developments at both the federal and state levels.
This will include information regarding the latest initiatives at the federal level impacting school health, and a review of state and federal legal obligations that are in place related to protecting the rights of undocumented students and students who are members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Participants will gain insight into their role in identifying and addressing foreseeable health issues for students during transportation to and from school.
Finally, participants will also learn about the latest guidance from the New Jersey Department of Education and Department of Health
impacting public schools, including the latest guidance related to participation in school athletics,
as well as a brief review of protocols for addressing norovirus, adrenal insufficiency, and concussions.

"School Nursing Evolved: NASN’s Refreshed School Nursing Practice FrameworkTM"

Abstract: In 2024, NASN undertook a mixed-methods approach to revising and updating the Framework for 21st Century Nursing Practice.
This presentation will walk attendees through the process used to update the Framework and the feedback we received in the process.
We will then review the updated Framework and do an interactive case study to explore how the Framework reflects the current practice of school nurses.

A New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) travel waiver for a conference allows school district employees and school board members
